Summer in Full Swing

By Julie Horner July 1, 2021

The Santa Cruz Mountains are vibrant with birdsong and the sounds of human endeavoring; warm days, windows flung wide, followed by foggy nights, the Big Dipper dancing in and out of view among winking stars in a silent forest. The air is fresh, the breeze is gentle. From everywhere music flows. Gratitude to be here now. There is no better place in summer.

Beloved establishments have reopened their doors, new businesses and their bright ideas are burgeoning with downtown ribbon cuttings and welcome signs set firmly out. The audacity of dreams come to fruition.

Hiking Trails are open in local parks, though damage from the fire has closed many. Mountain families continue to face challenges to rebuild after devastating loss. Columnist Jayme Ackemann tackles the topic on page 5.

Accepting change, allowing optimism, practicing tolerance and respect. This is what binds us together as we stride forward as a community.
